Project Overview
This Elmont home had a lot going on — two bathrooms that needed full repaints, a narrow hallway connecting them, a stairway with metal handrailings, and a large vaulted living room ceiling with exposed wood beams and two skylights. The homeowner wanted everything freshened up with clean, detailed results. The metal stairway railings had chipped and worn paint and needed to be refinished in black to match the updated look throughout the home.
Vaulted Ceiling & Exposed Beams
The vaulted ceiling was the most involved part of the project. The angles and height required careful staging to reach every section safely. We worked around the exposed wood beams and two large skylights, cutting clean lines where the ceiling meets each beam without getting paint on the natural wood. The ceiling itself received two coats for a bright, even finish — the kind of clean result that makes the beams and skylights stand out even more against the white.
The brick fireplace wall below the vaulted section had adjoining walls that needed careful masking and precision cutting where drywall meets brick. We kept every transition clean so the painted surfaces look intentional next to the exposed materials.
Hallway & Stairway
The hallway connecting the two bathrooms was painted in a deep green — a bold choice that the homeowner had selected to create contrast against the white doors and trim. The narrow space made cutting in more demanding, with multiple door frames and tight corners where three doors meet at different angles. Every edge was hand-brushed, and the ceiling line at the top of the hallway was cut cleanly against the angled ceiling transition.
The stairway was the real standout. The metal handrailings had layers of old paint that were chipping and peeling. We sanded each section down to clean metal, primed with a bonding primer, and applied two coats of black DTM (Direct-to-Metal) enamel. The finished railings have a smooth, satin-black finish that looks sharp against the surrounding walls — the homeowner said it made the whole stairway feel like new.
Two Bathrooms
Both bathrooms received complete repaints — walls, ceiling, and trim. In each one, we worked carefully around tile, fixtures, and vanities without removing them. All surfaces were cleaned, lightly sanded, and primed where needed before paint. The trim and door frames were finished with Benjamin Moore Advance for a smooth, moisture-resistant enamel that holds up well in bathroom environments. Edges along tile and fixtures were cut by hand for a tight, professional line.
Final Results
After six days, the home looked completely different. The vaulted ceiling is bright and clean, with the beams and skylights framed by crisp white paint. The green hallway has sharp contrast against the white trim and doors. The stairway railings went from chipped and worn to a smooth, glossy black finish. And both bathrooms are fresh, clean, and detailed. Every surface in this project was hand-finished — no shortcuts, no spray in tight areas, just careful work throughout.
